Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano on Wednesday announced that the city government has administered 1,015,029 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines as of September 7.

In a statement, Cayetano said Taguig is the fourth city to hit the one-million mark in terms of administered Covid-19 jabs, after Quezon City, Manila, and Caloocan.

“Taguig City attributes this milestone to the hard work of every health care and essential worker in the City who has largely contributed to contact tracing, vaccination efforts, and Taguig’s continuous implementation of the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR) strategy versus Covid-19,” he added.

Despite this, Cayetano assured his constituents of the local government’s aggressive vaccination efforts in all vaccination hubs.

“Taguig will continue to focus on community-based vaccination through the Taguig Mobile Vaccination Bus, Mobile Vaccination Team, and Home Service Vaccination for bedridden citizens. The City will continue to provide fast, safe, and accessible vaccination for every Taguigeño!” he said.

The city government is still checking the ratio of first-time vaccine recipients and those who have been fully vaccinated.

Cayetano added that the city aims to administer second-dose vaccines to 70 percent of the city’s population.

Based on the records of the Taguig City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, the city has a total of 38,079 Covid-19 cases with 35,765 recoveries and 297 deaths.

The current number of active cases is 2,017 or 5.3 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in Taguig.

Meanwhile, the city’s one-millionth vaccine recipient is Maria Luisa Escalante, a single mother and a resident of the city’s Barangay Sta. Ana.

Escalante said the vaccine would help her protect her family from Covid-19.

“Alam ko na mabibigyan ako ng proteksyon para maprotektahan ko rin ang pamilya mula sa virus. Malaki(ng) bagay na mabigyan nito, lalo na laganap ngayon ang Covid-19 at nakakatuwang malaman na libre ito. Kunin natin ang oportunidad na ito para magpabakuna (I know that by taking this vaccine, I will be able to protect myself and my family from the virus. This is a big deal considering that Covid-19 is now widespread. I am delighted to know that it is for free. Let us use every opportunity we can to have ourselves vaccinated),” she said. (PNA)
