The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) recently visited China as part of its efforts to build stronger ties with EV manufacturers.

EVAP met with executives of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Industry Cooperation Committee (RICC) in Beijing in July to discuss a possible collaboration in the EV sector among industry players in East Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

“Our engagement with the RICC is a pivotal step towards strengthening our ties with China and other ASEAN countries,” EVAP chair Rommel Juan said in a news release Tuesday, referring to their July 19 meeting. “By working together, we can accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to a sustainable future.”

Juan, along with EVAP’s president Edmund Araga and chairman emeritus Ferdinand Raquelsantos, met with RICC chair Xu Ningning, secretary general Jennifer Liu and liaison officer Nicole Wang.

They discussed enhancing collaboration and sharing best practices in EV technology, infrastructure development and regulatory frameworks.

“The exchange of knowledge and expertise between our countries will pave the way for innovative solutions in the EV sector. We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring,” Raquelsantos said.

In the same China trip, EVAP and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Automotive Sub Council met to accelerate adoption of EV in the Philippines.

“China’s expertise in automotive electrification is inspiring and we’re thrilled about the international cooperation this visit represents,” EVAP said in a previous Facebook post.

The Philippine delegation likewise promoted the 12th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit scheduled Oct. 24 to 26 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The annual summit gathers industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the EV landscape. (PNA)
