DIY Moms Philippines, an online community platform for all Filipino mothers, launched a campaign titled “Ang Pangarap ng Anak Ko” to highlight and rekindle the dreams of Filipino children in the post-pandemic.

A nine-year study conducted by the Dream Project Philippines showed that “8 out of 10 Filipinos do not have a dream.” This study was done among young people – students and newbies from different socioeconomic classes. The participants were asked “do they have a dream in life?” and their answers were “indefinite”. As a result, the organization believes that in order to nurture the youths’ dreams, they need to be mentored.

In 2020, the impact of COVID-19 has taken a toll on the most serious physical and mental capacities of older people, but it is the children who have experienced the brunt of the pandemic’s impact.

“Young people are less at risk of severe disease and death from Covid-19 but will be the most affected by the long-term consequences of the pandemic, which will shape the world they live and work in for decades to come,” WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on their website.

During the pandemic, children around the globe experienced crucial parts of their lives, such as the inability to go to school, make friends, go out, and undergo adjustments with their parents under the COVID-19 restrictions.

The result of the study published by SAGE Publishing titled COVID-19: In the Eyes of a Filipino Child, stated that the majority of children see COVID-19 as “deadly, scary, dangerous, fearful, terrifying, alarming, disturbing, and scared.” The result of COVID-19 “drove their motivation and missed doing activities.” And instead of kids worrying about their games, kids are now worried about their “lives and dreams.”

Another perception survey titled “Through Her Lens: The Impact of COVID-19 on Filipino Girls and Young Women – Philippines” conducted by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA Services) in the Philippines, stated that “7 out of 10 girls mentioned that the pandemic has affected their education the most. And they are more worried about how they will be able to go back to school rather than being affected by the COVID-19 virus.”

Despite more than two years of disturbance caused by COVID-19 to children, fortunately, with the reopening of face-to-face classes in the Philippines, children have never been more enthusiastic about going back to school and continuing their dreams, as UNICEF described children as “very resilient, hopeful, and resourceful.”

With children not sure of their tomorrow, DIY Moms has given parents the opportunity to flex and reignite their children’s dreams through creative solutions to make sure that their children still have hope for their future.

This initiative has brought moms together to showcase their children’s dreams through the “Ang Pangarap ng Anak Ko” online campaign.
Members are expected to post photos of their children in different categories such as drawing, writing, and storytelling. This gives Filipino moms the opportunity to test if their kids still have hope for their future despite the difficulties they have experienced during the pandemic.

With over 13,000 members, DIY Moms continues to be the top online community for mothers in the Philippines where they can share common things about family life.
