Some 16 technological innovations ready for adoption are on exhibit at the technology bazaar in this town as part of the 2022 Regional Science and Technology Week.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) chief senior science research specialist, Romeo Javate, said these technologies are ready for commercialization.

“These are more on agricultural technology since the province is more on agriculture,” he said.

Javate said a business-to-business meeting will be conducted on Thursday to give the researchers an opportunity to present their technologies to the generators or the businessmen.

“Technology may be adopted with the assistance of DOST either through Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) or venture financing, which are soft loan (schemes),” he added.

Aside from financial assistance, the DOST also provides training, among others, as its approach to the technology transfer is holistic, Javate said.

DOST Ilocos regional director Dr. Armando Ganal said this type of technology transfer falls under the technology for commercialization covered under the Republic Act (RA) 10055, or the Technology Transfer Act.

“If anyone is interested to adopt the technology, they should undergo the process as part of RA 10055. Whoever would adopt or commercialize the technology should get a fairness opinion report from the DOST Secretary,” he said.

He added the technologies are protected through intellectual property, thus it would not be copied or stolen.

Meanwhile, Ganal said the celebration of Science and Technology Week in the region from Nov. 9 to 11 aims to promote technology and innovation in urban and rural areas.

“We are also conducting caravans –not only exhibits and bazaars, as well as stakeholders forum,” he said.

Students may also visit and enjoy the mobile planetarium, interactive exhibit, and technology bazaar free of admission from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PNA)
