The city government will soon use an android-base phone application for contact tracing of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Wednesday the application would be a joint initiative of the City Planning and Development Office together and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

“We will utilize technology to help the contact tracers,” Salazar said, adding the application will feature geotagging capabilities for more accurate contact tracing.

The mayor said the city government will hire 300 contact tracers while the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will employ 600 similar workers.

Currently, this city employs a web-based Covid-19 tracker containing relevant contact tracing data.

The City Health Office said that as of Sept. 21, this city recorded a total of 1,579 Covid-19 cases since March, with 75 deaths, 427 active cases, and 1,077 total recoveries. (PNA)
