Social media giant Facebook and music player Spotify partner to create the project called ‘Project Boombox’ that introduces a miniplayer within Facebook that allows users to use both apps at the same time.

The Spotify newsroom wrote, “Over the past year, we’ve seen how social media continues to be an incredibly important way to connect with friends and loved ones—especially when gathering in person is more challenging. Audio continues to be something that brings people together.”

The new Spotify miniplayer simply appears on Facebook News Feed once the user clicks the ‘Play’ button from Spotify. If it’s the user’s first time, a consent dialog ‘Connect’ will appear to confirm the connection and you’re all set. Users can continue to play music on shuffle while scrolling on Facebook without any interruptions. However, ads will still pop up if the user is using the app for free.

“Fans will also have the ability to play songs via the miniplayer through select verified artists’ posts, or even from user-uploaded videos on Facebook that contain licensed music,” added Spotify.

Aside from music, users can also discover and experience listening to podcasts with full playbacks inside the Facebook app on iOS and Android.

The company has announced that the feature is already out in 27 countries, excluding the Philippines. The new integration will roll out to more countries over the coming months.
