The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) had released an official statement that the alleged steam coming out from Lakewood Subdivision in Barangay Tadlac, Los Baños, Laguna came from a hot spring.

On Thursday, February 11, Los Baños City Mayor Tony Lakaw and his colleagues visited the place where the steam was spotted. Local officials then called Phivolcs to identify the cause of the strange steaming.

After the steaming video circulated online, Phivolcs stated “Ang nakitang steaming ay mula sa hot springs katulad ng hot spring resorts na pinupuntahan sa Laguna. Ang hot springs ay normal na makikita sa mga bulkan,” on their recent Facebook post.

Phivolcs again clarified that Mt. Makiling in Laguna is not an active volcano and there was no historic eruption has been recorded yet.
