The local government here launched on Wednesday a campaign against the illegal operations of the “bao-bao” type of tricycles in this city.

City Mayor, Samuel Co issued the order following reports that more than a thousand tricycles, mostly the bao-bao type, are operating without franchise and registration with the city government.

Co noted that the vehicles operate without complying with the requirement despite previous warnings.

“These unregistered tricycles continue to infuriate the legal tricycle operators and drivers who religiously pay for franchise and mayor’s permit,” he added.

The mayor said some of the unregistered tricycles operating in this city are from the nearby towns.

To date, the city has 2,850 units of registered tricycles that are operating under franchises.

He said violators will be fined PHP1,500, first offense; PHP2,500, second offense; and PHP3,500 plus impounding of the unit for the third offense. (PNA)
