The city government here is looking into the possibility of making public the specific areas where coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients could have possibly been infected.

In a statement Tuesday, the city government said the history of exposure of infected persons may help dissuade others from visiting the locations and potentially avoid contracting the virus themselves.

The local government noted that currently, the Department of Health in Davao Region (DOH-11) only posts the age, address, the onset of symptoms of patients, as well as history of travel.

“Over the weekend, we have a discussion to publish these areas, meaning [specific] place, not the barangay, not the village, and not exactly the general location,” Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said in a radio interview Monday.

The city government publishes a Covid-19 Risk Assessment Map on a weekly basis that identifies “very high risk, high risk, and moderate risk” barangays in the city, and serves as a guide for Dabawenyos for places not to visit.

However, the mayor said more specific information on the areas of exposure will compel Dabawenyos to take “take extra precautions.”

“This is for people to either do not go or take extra precaution when they go there. There is a discussion that it would be good that we can say where the particular place is so the people would take it slow,” Duterte added.

She acknowledged the challenge posed by some patients who have difficulty remembering the specific places they have been into.

“That is why we are still discussing as to how the city can implement the plan,” she added.

Duterte said several Covid-19 patients are employees of grocery stores, where people usually converge. (PNA)
