In an outstanding showcase of creativity and expertise, Mondrick Alpas, a talented Filipino barista based in Dubai, emerged victorious at the UAE National Latte Art Championship during World of Coffee Dubai 2024.

Competing against two formidable coffee champions, Angelo Lagata and Jatfikly Raymond Ampuan, Alpas secured the coveted first-place award with his mesmerizing latte art creations inspired by the Lion King. The championship, held from January 21-23 at the Dubai World Trade Center, brought together baristas from across the region to highlight their artistic flair in crafting lattes.

Alpas, who works at Goldbox Roastery, wowed the judges with his intricate patterns reflecting characters like Simba, Timon, and Zazu. In an interview with The Filipino Times, he shared the inspiration behind his designs, emphasizing the balance between complexity and ease of pouring in latte art.

Reflecting on his journey, Alpas acknowledged the support of friends and mentors, particularly Lyndon Recera, a fellow Cebuano and colleague at Goldbox Roastery. Alpas expressed gratitude for the inspiration and guidance that propelled him into the world of specialty coffee competitions.

Having clinched several titles over the years, including UAE National Latte Art Champion 2021 and UAE National Latte Art Grading System Battle 2021, Alpas remains motivated and eager to represent the UAE at the upcoming World Latte Art Championship in Copenhagen from June 27-29, 2024.
