Messenger Kids is now available in the Philippines. It allows ages 6-12 to use video calls and messaging features with parents’ control.

First launched in the United States in 2017, Messenger Kids is designed for younger users as a safer alternative to the Facebook Messenger.

The app also offers stickers, GIFs, frames, masks, and drawing tools that are age-appropriate.

Facebook Head of Safety for the Asia Pacific Amber Hawkes shared, “Through our work with the Stairway Foundation, the Child Rights Network, and other safety partners in the Philippines, we learned that many Filipino parents are looking for ways to help their children stay in touch with friends and family during this challenging time, in a fun and parent-supervised environment.”

Hawkes cleared also that Messenger Kids will not create a separate Facebook account for the children nor give access to the parents’ personal accounts.

Each account is supervised by an adult, who has the access on contacts and conversations using their own Messenger account.

Messenger Kids is now available for download via Play Store and App Store.
