As a Filipino, it’s not new having a few or several of your relatives grow up abroad. It actually happens so regularly that it has become a norm. Despite that, the iconic Filipino traditions live on in their lives even though they moved out of the country many years ago.

Disney UK has released a campaign titled, “FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS”. It features wide-eyed character named Lola, who was gifted a Mickey Mouse plushie back in 1940. In the video, you can assume from the background that she was in the beautiful streets of Vigan, Ilocos Norte.

65 years later, Lola is now a grandmother to a girl who is growing up too fast. Spending less and less time together, the apo was eventually hit with nostalgia by the Mickey Mouse plushie that she got from her grandmother. She then successfully reconnected with Lola when she brought her the iconic Filipino themed Christmas through the parols she hung in the living room.

Many distinct Filipino references can be caught in the short film including parol-making, pagmamano. Surely, netizens immediately became sentimental upon seeing the video.

Nothing beats the Filipino Christmas Spirit. Have you checked in on your lola lately?
