President Ferdinand R. Marcos on Monday recounted the generosity of Filipinos and the Hawaiian people to his family in 1986.

“I wouldn’t be here were if not for the compassion and kindness of our kababayans in Hawaii who gave us food and clothes when we arrived because we had nothing,” Marcos said during a courtesy call of officers and members of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH) at Malacañan Palace.

The Marcos family fled to Hawaii after the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986 and remained there until the death of patriarch former President Ferdinand E. Marcos in 1989.

In the same meeting, Marcos discussed with FCCH members his administration’s initiatives to keep the nation’s post-pandemic growth momentum.

The FCCH is considered one of the biggest and oldest Filipino chambers in the United States, providing support to Filipino entrepreneurs in Hawaii.

The organization also provides regular networking meetings, valuable workshops and outreach trade missions to the Philippines.

On its official Facebook page, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) also shared photos of the courtesy call.

“Tinanggap ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos sa Palasyo ang mga opisyal at miyembro ng Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH) sa isang courtesy call ngayong araw, Oktubre 24 (President Ferdinand R. Marcos received at the Palace the officials and members of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii in a courtesy call today, October 24),” the OPS said. (PNA)
