At least 11 public schools in Catarman, Northern Samar have received brand new printers from the local government to boost the production of self-learning modules.

“We have distributed a total of 19 brand new professional laser-quality printers, each with 10 cartridges of optimum toners. This is our contribution in support to the distance learning of the Department of Education (DepEd) amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,” Mayor Francisco Rosales Jr. said in a statement on Monday.

He said they will take charge of the maintenance and repair of the printer, reminding teachers to handle them properly for long-term use.

Rosales led the distribution at the town’s covered court attended by school heads of recipient schools on Saturday.

These are the Catarman I Central School (CS), Galutan National High School (NHS), Catarman II CS, Washington NHS, Catarman NHS, Generoso R. Frigillana Memorial School, Cawayan Integrated School, Rosario Lim Uy NHS, Cervantes Elementary School (ES), Polangi NHS, and Polangi ES.

Earlier, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local government units (LGU) to assist public schools in their areas to adjust to the new normal, as well as utilize the Special Education Fund to support the localization of the DepEd’s basic education learning continuity plan.

The DILG said local governments must also consider donating learning resources such as laptops, desktops, tablets, smartphones, and internet services to help ensure the attainment of quality education amid the health crisis.

In Eastern Visayas, the education department welcomed over 1.3 million enrollees for the school year 2020-2021.

Out of 4,471 public and private schools in the region, 4,053 are implementing the modular distance learning, 84 for the radio-based instructions, 136 for the television-based instructions, and 198 for the online distance learning and instructions. (PNA)
