6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tulunan, North Cotabato

Tulunan, North Cotabato experienced a magnitude of 6.6 earthquake on October 29 at 9:04 AM.

Aftershocks and further damages are expected, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. Tsunamis, on the other hand, are unlikely to happen.

Tulunan also experienced a magnitude of 6.3 earthquake last October 16, this year. Coincidentally, it happened during the daytime as well, while classes and government offices were operating. According to the PhiVolcs 10 aftershocks have already occurred in the province.

Moreover, North Cotabato suspended classes in all levels, Daig-Elementary School’s classrooms were reportedly flattened due to the earthquake.

In other parts of the region such as Davao Del Sur had some of their buildings collapse. One of the buildings hit was the municipal government in Magsaysay.

General Santos City’s school buildings luckily did not collapse but garnered cracks from the vibration of the quake.

Classes in Saranggani, General Santos, Davao City, Koronadal City, and Digos City were suspended in all levels.

NGO Save the Children reports that they are hastily working on the incident with the government to evaluate and ease the situation of those affected. They have their Humanitarian Response Team in the area to gather info and their Emergency Response Team for any sudden aftermaths.
