It’s customary in the Philippines to always come home to celebrate Christmas and New Year with families and it is also customary to have fun and games to ensure a good experience. It is perhaps the best time to join families to come in closer together, spend time with food, watch fireworks, exchange gifts, and of course play the much-awaited parlor games for kids and adults. However, time seems to run fast when we’re with family so we always want to ensure that everyone will enjoy it.
You can only play ‘Never Have I Ever’ so many times before you’ve learned everything there is to know about your friends’ and families’ lives. Even if activities such as bowling and going to the movies become more widely available, your alternatives remain limited. Now is the ideal time to demonstrate your inventiveness. Fortunately, there are plenty of games to play with pals that you haven’t yet done.
Whether you’re searching for a food challenge or a brand-new game to play, any of these boredom-busting ideas will keep things interesting and make your holiday bonding more alive and don’t forget the prizes if you want to see your buddies really get into it. Here’s a list of fun challenges you may perform with your pals, titos and titas, cousins and even grannies without breaking the bank.
But this time, if you’re celebrating Christmas and New Year from afar, no worries because you can hop on your go-to virtual app to join your families’ newly found games.
1. Impression Challenge
This is a guessing game with a twist. Getting your friends to guess correctly is part of this task. Put the names of numerous famous people on post-its and toss them into a hat, or if you’re socially awkward, come up with someone on your own. When it’s your turn, you’ll practice giving the impression of the person you’ve chosen. Your friends must be able to figure out who you are in order for you to win.
2. Lemon Eating Challenge
Lemons go well with meals, but have you ever tried one on its own? Now is the chance to put your sense of taste to the test. Cut lemons into various chunks and compete to see who can eat the most without giving up. After a few, we guarantee that one of the members will quit.
3. No Laughing Challenge
Play your favorite humorous YouTube videos with your friends and family in the living room or through Zoom. If someone begins to laugh, they will lose a point. Keep track of how much you spend laughing during the night, and the person who spends the least is the winner.
4. Blindfolded Drawing Challenge
Guess who is the true artist and the con one? Drawing can be difficult even if you’re the group’s artist. It’s considerably more difficult to sketch without seeing what’s already on the page. Put on a blindfold and give a friend something to draw (a tree, a house, a friend, etc.) and watch the humorous outcomes.
5. Whisper Challenge
This one will require the use of your loudest headphones. One of your colleagues puts on the headphones as another tries to whisper song lyrics to them, which they can’t hear. Time them to see who can get the most points by the conclusion of the round or see how long it takes them to get it right.
6. First 100 Layer Challenge
This task is simple to imitate and may be completed with practically any household item. Attempt to apply 100 layers of something you already have on hand (nail polish, t-shirts, lipstick, etc). See who can finish it the quickest and take note of the amusing results each family has at home.
7. Marshmallow Challenge
This is an old camp classic that you’ve probably played a dozen times. For this, you’ll need a lot of marshmallows. You and your mates compete to see who can eat the most marshmallows in the shortest amount of time. Whoever has the most points wins!
8. Riff Off Challenge
Gather your families and have your own Riff Off, inspired by the iconic scenes from Pitch Perfect. The rules are the same as in the movie: choose a category, sing a song that matches it, and have the following person/team begin their song with the same word as the previous person/team. After a minute, if no one else joins in, the current singer is declared the winner.
9. Eat It or Wear It Challenge
Wear anything you don’t mind getting dirty because this challenge is guaranteed to get messy. To play, you’ll need a variety of snacks, each of which will be placed in a different numbered bag. When it’s your turn, pick a number from a bowl and pick up the bag of food that goes to that number. Now you have to decide whether you want to eat a spoonful of the meal or wear it on your shirt or face. Remember to include a few dishes that you don’t expect people would wear or eat to make this game even more hilarious.
10. What’s in the Box Challenge
Do you want to have some good laughs? Get some cosmetics and blindfolds, then give each other makeovers while you can’t see what you’re doing. The person who has the best appearance wins!
11. BeanBoozled Jelly Beans Challenge
It’s perhaps best known as Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans from Harry Potter, but you may also try it as the BeanBoozled Jelly Beans challenge. After spinning the wheel, pick up the jelly bean of the same color. Will you get a sweet coconut flavor or a sour rotten egg flavor?
12. Egg Cracking Challenge
Your favorite celebrities have been doing it for years, and now it’s time for you to join in. Take a carton of eggs and hard boil the majority of them while leaving a few uncooked. Replace them in the carton (mix them up so you don’t know which one is which, or have someone else do it for you). Take one egg at a time and break it on your head. Play until no more hard-boiled eggs are left and see who is the lucky player who made it through the entire game without cracking a real egg on their head.
13. No Singing Challenge
Make a new Spotify playlist with everyone’s favorite sing-along songs and add them to it. Gather everyone and listen to snippets of each song while avoiding joining in. It’s a lot more difficult than it appears.
