Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., on Saturday lauded the PNP taekwondo team for bagging the overall title in the sports at the 2022 World Police and Fire Games held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands from July 22 to 31.

The taekwondo team of the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame harvested 17 gold, 10 silver, and nine bronze medals, while the “Pilipinas Puso” volleyball players of the Police Regional Office 11 (Davao region) in Davao City finished third place in the indoor competition.

“We always support programs and activities that promote the physical development and wellness of our personnel. The actual competition is as important as the preparation that encourages them to live an active lifestyle,” Azurin said in a statement.

He said it is with pride that the PNP participated again in this year’s world stage where about 10,000 police, fire, customs, and corrections officers from around the world gathered and showed their sports abilities.

“More than the medals they garnered, this experience enriched the values of our participating personnel while engaging with other athletes and promoting sportsmanship. In this way, they are champions in their own rights,” Azurin said.

About 170 PNP representatives were sent to The Netherlands to compete in several sports competitions, including badminton, basketball, cycling, and track events. (PNA)
