The market division of the local government here has set and released a list of suggested retail prices (SRP) of some of the meat products being sold in the town.

This after several complaints have been received by the office on the sudden increase in the price of commodities in the market, especially pork.

Arnulfo Bernardino, the town’s market supervisor, said the sudden increase in the price of pork was the result of a supply shortage due to the ongoing crisis brought about by the African swine fever (ASF).

“We have set the SRP in order for vendors to avoid abusing and manipulating the price. This would also benefit the market-goers,” he said in an interview on Monday.

Meanwhile, the town’s slaughterhouse office also released a list of SRP.

Based on SRP, liempo and pork loin should be sold at PHP320 per kilo, ‘buto-buto’ or pork ribs at PHP300, while pork hock at PHP220.

Beef should be sold at PHP350 per kilo, chicken meat and wings at PHP160, while chicken feet and head at PHP120.

SRP violators will face appropriate consequences, Bernardino said. (PNA)
