Netflix, one of the world’s leading streaming services, will begin testing ways to charge fees for users outside the household.

Netflix has made it simple for people who live together to share their Netflix account by including exciting features such as separate profiles and multiple streams in their Standard and Premium plans.

This new feature draws some misunderstanding about when and how Netflix can be shared. It also had an effect on their ability to invest in new subscribers as subscription growth slowed.

Netflix has begun rolling out and testing two new features in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru. The video streaming service has been working on how to make it easier and more secure for its members who share outside their household while also charging a bit more.

“We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account. As a result, accounts are being shared between households – impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members,” Chengyi Long, Netflix Director said.

Moreover, members of Netflix’s Standard and Premium plans can use the Add an Extra Member feature to add sub accounts for up to two people they don’t live with. Each has their own profile, personalized recommendations, login, and password for easier use.

Meanwhile, the Transfer Profile to a New Account feature is available to subscribers of the Basic, Standard, and Premium plans who can share their account and transfer profile information to a new account or an extra member sub account. It keeps track of your viewing history, My List, and personalized recommendations.

“We’ll be working to understand the utility of these two features for members in these three countries before making changes anywhere else in the world,” Long added.

During pandemic lockdowns that kept users entertained at home in 2021, Netflix amassed 221.8 million subscribers.
