A PHP14-million Pasalubong Center under construction beside the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag is set for completion within the year, aiming to complement the high tourist arrivals in Manaoag, Pangasinan.

“It has been planned for a long time. We fully support the idea because it will showcase not only local products but also products of the whole province,” Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Rosario said in an interview Monday.

The project started in July 2024 with PHP4 million in initial funding while another PHP10 million was allotted for the project this year, which is due for completion within six to eight months.

Efforts are being expedited to accommodate the steady influx of tourists, especially during Holy Week, as Manaoag remains a top faith tourism destination.

The Pasalubong Center’s architectural design is by Jason Buensalido and Cholo Ramirez of Barchan Architecture and Design Company, Manila.

Rosario also announced other ongoing projects, including the renovation and rehabilitation of Rizal Park, which has been allocated PHP20 million under the General Appropriations Act of 2025.

“It will be an open park with a small area for gatherings,” he said.

Plans are also in place to reorganize and improve the vendors’ area to enhance the town’s public spaces.

Manaoag, known for its Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, saw an 11 percent increase in tourist arrivals in 2024, with 5.78 million visitors, up from 5.2 million in 2023. (PNA)
