The Korean Embassy in Manila is set to pick 14 Filipinos for the 2023 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS).

The application started Friday and will end not later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 28.

“Through this scholarship, students will have the chance to pursue graduate-level degrees and doctoral-level degrees at esteemed higher education institutions in Korea,” read the embassy statement.

Fourteen students from the Philippines, through the embassy track, will be chosen to complete the graduate program.

The funding will cover round trip airfare tickets, monthly stipend, tuition fees, settlement allowance, Scholarship Completion Grants, Korean language training expenses and medical insurance.

The Master’s Degree Program is expected to run for three years, which includes one year of Korean language program.

Doctoral Degree Programs, meanwhile, could last up to four years, with one year also allotted for the language classes.

The annual GKS program offers opportunity to over a thousand students from across the world to study in Korea and, for the Filipino scholars’ case, foster mutual friendship between Seoul and Manila.

Based on the latest GKS guidelines, applicants must be a Filipino national and under 40 years old, or born after Sept. 1, 1983.

The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of the entire curriculum from their previous degree program (either bachelor’s or master’s) must also meet one of the conditions below:

  • Score percentile should be 80 percent or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20 percent of one’s class
  • CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.0
