Personnel from the Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGS-SDN) planted over 2,000 mangrove propagules in Barangay Nabago, Surigao City, on Sunday as part of ongoing environmental protection efforts.

The planting activity was conducted within a 10-hectare mangrove plantation adopted by the station under the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

“This initiative reflects the station’s commitment to supporting environmental sustainability and national greening initiatives,” the CGS-SDN said in a statement Monday.

Participants included personnel from various CGS-SDN substations, particularly those stationed in Surigao City and Lipata.

This marked the second recent environmental activity by CGS-SDN.

On Nov. 16, the station planted more than 2,000 mangrove propagules and conducted a coastal clean-up in Barangay Mabua, Surigao City.

The CGS-SDN emphasized the ecological benefits of mangrove planting, noting that mangroves serve as a natural barrier against coastal erosion, enhance biodiversity, and improve the health of Surigao City’s coastal communities. (PNA)
