The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued three passengers of a distressed yacht in the waters off Basco, Batanes.

In a statement on Monday, the PCG said 37-year old Emmanuel Domingo, and Canadian nationals 60-year old Douglas Rutherford and 34-year old Carson Chanthywong were onboard the vessel for a diving venture when they encountered big waves.

“According to report, the yacht encountered big waves while preparing for a diving venture at the vicinity waters off Basco, Batanes,” the PCG said.

At about 2:20 p.m., the PCG rescued the distressed individuals and were brought at the Sanctuary Area in Basco, Batanes for further assistance.

It added that the rescued individuals were in good physical condition after the rescue.

Last week, the PCG rescued two mentally-impaired men who were locked inside a house within the Taal Volcano danger zone in Agoncillo, Batangas.

The PCG said personnel from Task Force Taal were on patrol in the area when they were informed of the two persons left behind during the evacuation. (PNA)
