More than 1,500 senior citizens in this city were administered with flu vaccine on Tuesday to boost their fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

A statement from the city information office said through the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs and City Health Office, a total of 1,551 elderlies from the 25 barangays here were vaccinated for free.

Mayor Cristy Angeles believed that through the immunization program, the cases of Covid-19 in the city will decline especially among the senior citizens.

Meanwhile, Tarlac province logged 17 new recoveries from Covid-19, of whom nine are from this city.

Two are from Capas and one each from the towns of Sta. Ignacia, La Paz, Moncada, Victoria, Bamban, and Pura.

This brought the total number of recoveries to 496 as confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday.

However, five new confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported, raising the total number of cases to 677 of which 152 are on active status.

Of the five new cases, two came from Paniqui and one each from Camiling, Victoria, and Concepcion.

The number of recorded deaths remained at 29. (PNA)
