Agusan del Norte’s Provincial Board has approved an allocation of PHP8.3 million as financial aid to all barangays to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Monday’s Provincial Board resolution granted Governor Dale B. Corvera the authority to transfer about PHP50,000 for each of the province’s 176 barangays.

In a statement on Tuesday, Corvera said the assistance was part of the provincial government’s broader approach to contain Covid-19 at the grass-roots level.

“We cannot just leave the barangays alone in the fight against Covid-19,” he was quoted as saying.

Corvera said the barangays could use the funds in their anti-Covid-19 activities, including the maintenance of barangay checkpoints.

Last month, the provincial government also released PHP1 million in aid to each of the province’s local government units (LGUs) in support of their Covid-19 containment measures.

“The funds extended by the province to both the municipalities and the barangays now sum up to PHP19.3 million,” he said.

On top of the financial assistance, he said the provincial government has also supported LGUs in terms of food and other essential needs of the residents. (PNA)
