Hundreds of Filipino photographers from all over the country gathered once again at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City with their prized Canon cameras for the Canon PhotoMarathon Philippines 2019. As the leader in digital imaging, Canon aspires to continue to own the photography space by continuing to provide platforms to showcase the world-class talent of Filipino photographers and make their mark in the global scene.

“Year on year, we notice how the interest in photography is increasing, thus the call for us to create more avenues wherein people of all ages can explore their passion in photography. This year’s theme is all about looking beyond the ordinary, which we believe would be a creative way to challenge our participants, put them to the test, to produce the best photographs they didn’t know they could achieve,” said Kazuhiro Ozawa, President & CEO of Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc (CMPI).

The theme this year is called SIPAT PILIPINAS. “Sipat,” which means to “to see” or “to aim,” was aptly chosen to inspire and encourage everyone to look and see beyond the ordinary and enable them to capture visuals from their own unique perspectives according to the themes “Dream,” and “Faith” which were announced on-the-spot. Canon also brought back a special category for students where a younger generation of visual storytellers were challenged to capture striking shots according to the theme “Freedom.”

Jo Anne Arquiza, who hails from Batangas, took the most coveted spot as the 2019 Canon PhotoMarathon Philippines Grand Winner and will represent the country in the prestigious PhotoMarathon Grand Championship in 2020.

On top of the competition, Canon held different workshops such as Vlogging 101, Self-Branding, as well as professional workshops on Basketball, Landscape, and Portraiture Photography with Canon Brand Ambassadors throughout the day with the goal of further enhancing and developing Filipinos’ content creation skills. Workshops for kids and families complete with their own fun, mini version of a PhotoMarathon also helped bring to life Canon’s vision of cultivating the culture of photography in the country.

Canon PhotoMarathon started 2003 in Singapore and quickly made waves in other Asian countries including the Philippines. To know more about Canon PhotoMarathon, visit https://photomarathon.canon.com.ph/
