There will soon be more bicycle lanes and safer stops for public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Quezon City through a project to be implemented by the Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the city government.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the DOTr said there will be additional bike lanes and stops for public utility buses (PUB) and public utility jeepneys (PUJ) at Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue as part of the Active Transport and Public Transport Infrastructure Improvement Project.

“[Ito ay] para masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga siklistang bumabaybay sa mga naturang lugar, at masiguro ang maayos na lagay ng trapiko sa kabila ng implementasyon ng programa (This is to ensure the safety of cyclists in the area and to maintain a smooth flow of traffic through implementation of the program),” it said.

The QC government, it said, has offered full support as the recipient of the project while the MMDA will conduct a formal dry run to study the traffic condition that the project may bring about.

The proposed project was presented during a meeting on Tuesday led by DOTr Active Transport Program Management Office Chief EnP. Eldon Dionisio and Engr. Daniel Bayona with MMDA Engr. Dannedee Bodabilla and Quezon City Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo. (PNA)
