Kapampangans commemorated on Monday the 110th birth anniversary of the late President Diosdado P. Macapagal in a simple ceremony at the Museum and Library of President Diosdado P. Macapagal in Barangay San Nicolas 1st, in Lubao, this province.

Lubao town Mayor Esmeralda Pineda, along with National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Executive Director Restituto L. Aguilar, Vice Mayor Jay B. Montemayor, and Lubao Chief of Police Lt. Col. Michael Jhon N. Riego offered flowers at the monument of the former president during the wreath-laying rites.

Unlike previous celebrations, this year’s event was kept short and simple to follow safety and health protocols amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Pineda said the life and legacy of Macapagal also known as Apung Dadong is an example of good leadership that should be emulated by the youth.

Known as the “poor boy from Lubao”, Macapagal became the ninth president of the Philippine Republic. He was the father of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who followed in his footsteps and became the president of the country from 2001-2010.

He was born to couple, Urbano Macapagal and Romana Pangan, on Sept. 28, 1910 in Barangay San Nicolas, Lubao, this province. (PNA)
