A new access road leading to a popular public beach and a surfing area in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur is expected to boost tourism and the local economy.

“This road project reflects our ongoing commitment to build infrastructure that not only connects places but also supports long-term development in tourism-rich areas,” Ilocos Sur District Engineer Raynaldo Ablog said in a statement on Friday.

He said the 408.42-meter Pug-os–Salapasap–Daclapan–Namruangan Road had a project amount of PHP4,879,943.47 funded under the 2025 Infrastructure Program of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The new infrastructure improves access to remote tourist destinations, and enhances the visitor experience, particularly for self-drive tourists.

From Cabugao town proper, travel time going to the Pug-os beach is now 10 to 13 minutes for the 6.5-kilometer route, easing transportation for locals and tourists alike.

The completed access road is part of the national government’s Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP), which aims to provide seamless and safe travel routes to key tourism sites across the country.

Officials and residents expressed hope that the improved road will mark the beginning of sustained tourism growth and increased livelihood in the area. (PNA)
