San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora on Saturday conducted a surprise visit at the Pinaglaban Memorial Shrine to check the people who utilize the place as an exercise area.

Zamora said the historic shrine is open for individual exercises including walking, jogging, running, and biking during the imposition of the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Group exercises, especially gatherings of more than 10 people are still prohibited, Zamora said.

Residents should follow the city’s mandatory safety measures and health protocols such as wearing a mask and face shield as well as practicing physical distancing while using the spaces within the shrine to exercise.

As the government allowed the non-contact sports and other forms of healthy activities, Zamora urged the residents to exercise to ensure a healthy living amid the pandemic.

The city government has earlier rehabilitated the five-hectare park ground as a tribute to San Juan’s pivotal role in the Philippine revolution against colonizers.

In case the national government would allow small activities on the Christmas holidays, Zamora hoped to conduct it within the shrine’s grounds.

Zamora also inspected the smooth traffic flow within the newly installed dedicated bike lanes.

He earlier urged residents to use bicycles as alternative transportation while public transportation is still limited due to the health crisis. (PNA)
