Yachts from around the world have continued to make stopovers in Surigao City this year, solidifying the city’s status as a hub for world cruisers.

Fifty-one foreign cruisers on 10 yachts have anchored in Surigao City since January, mainly to process documents at the local Bureau of Immigration office.

“Our personnel continue to provide assistance to these cruisers,” said Roselyn Merlin, the tourism officer of Surigao City, in an interview on Monday.

Eight of the yachts anchored in Surigao City in January, and two have anchored so far this month, Merlin said.

Three of the yachts are registered in Poland, two each in France and the United States, and one each in Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

“Aside from processing their papers, the cruisers also visited our restaurants and bars,” Merlin said.

The cruisers also bought goods and supplies in the city.

Last year, 32 yachts with 105 foreign sailors made stopovers in Surigao City. (PNA)
