Geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) Mount Apo Geothermal Power Plants are now back online, with its 54.24 MW M2 power plant successfully synchronized to the grid on November 12 and its 54.24 MW M1 power plant’s return to service today, following the strong earthquake that hit Kidapawan City and other parts of Mindanao on October 31.

The timely return-to-service of both power plants was made possible by the round-the-clock work of EDC as well as its contractors, and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and the National Power Corporation (NPC).

“We thank all our colleagues and partners for their swift assistance not only in putting back our power plants online but even in helping our host communities in Barangay Ilomavis,” said Romy Kee, Head of the Mount Apo Geothermal Project. “The Filipino spirit of bayanihan was evident as we all worked together to do so much with less time.”

In the aftermath of the earthquake, EDC prioritized the safety and welfare of its employees and host communities even as it endeavored to put the plants back online at the soonest possible time. EDC provided supplies of various necessities, including food, water, medicine, tents and tarps, and makeshift toilets to over 4,000 residents of Barangays Ilomavis and Balabag who have been displaced since October 31.

EDC operates the 108.48-MW Mount Apo Geothermal Project and supplies clean and reliable power to Mindanao. It is a global pioneer in the geothermal energy industry and the country’s largest vertically-integrated geothermal developer, delivering 1,457.8MW of clean and renewable energy to the Philippines.
