A Filipino student achieved summa cum laude honors and a perfect 4.0 GPA upon graduating from the prestigious Yale University.

Dion Stephan Ong, a 21-year-old student, was one of the 4,000 graduates at Yale University’s 323rd commencement ceremony, marking the institution’s founding in 1701.

Ong completed a dual degree program, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Computer Science. He graduated with Distinction in the Major and received the Yale Science & Engineering Association Senior of Distinction award. Additionally, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

He previously attended Ateneo de Manila University, where he completed his elementary and secondary education by 2020, graduating as the valedictorian of his senior high school class.

Beginning his studies at Yale during the onset of the pandemic, Ong’s first semester courses were conducted online.

He is set to begin his career as a core engineer at Hudson River Trading in New York City.
