The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), through the School of New Media Arts (SNMA), recently inaugurated the Saint Mutien-Marie Wiaux Audio Facilities, where Aspiring filmmakers, animators, and multimedia artists may hone their talents and skills in post-production and sound production.

The newly opened 366-square-meter audio laboratory is specially designed to nurture the next generation of creative innovators and leaders.

Located on the 9th floor of the Design + Arts Campus, this expansive studio is equipped with advanced technology and software. It includes a spacious lobby which provides a comfortable and safe space for consultation and collaboration.

Benilde SNMA Dean Maria Sharon Mapa Arriola shared that the conceptualization of the facility began in 2018 as a response to the requirements of the industry and the growing student population.

“It serves as a catalyst and a professional launch pad for future directors, cinematographers, multimedia artists, and content creators,” she stated.

The expansive centerpiece is the state-of-the-art Foley Room, where every day sound effects such as footsteps can be created and recorded at par with international standards. This is due to the exceptional acoustics that capture authentic high-quality sounds.

“Its view window is a unique feature and is a first for any multimedia facility in the country,” Arriola stated. “It allows more students to observe the sound creation process, enhancing their learning experience.”

Among the key areas are two versatile and multi-functional spaces which can be used both for discussions and recording: the 2.1 Classroom is ideal for regular sound lectures, while the 7.1 Surround Sound Mixing Studio offers immersive audio experiences.

With 10 individual recording or vocal booths, the laboratory serves as the largest sound production facility in the nation, which can rival professional setups.

Rooms are complete with its respective control areas furnished with the latest tools – iMAC, PreSonus interfaces, PreSonus monitor speakers, M-AUDIO Oxygen 25 MIDI controller, and Behringer X-touch Solo – for powerful computing and heightened tactile control.

All the booths are isolated and sound proof to ensure different content and media can be generated independently and simultaneously.

“These are thoughtfully designed with end-users in mind,” Arriola explained. “It prioritizes sound and acoustic considerations to ensure optimal functionality and performance.”

“It facilitates versatility and efficiency for various audio production needs, making the facility functional and highly advanced,” she added.

Benilde SNMA offers Animation, Film, Multimedia Arts, and Photography Programs designed to be vanguards in creating digital content relevant to the people and society.

Under the mentorship of a roster of seasoned educators, industry experts, and practitioners, learners are immersed in the most up-to-date technology and innovative curricular approaches that enable them to explore the field through various media applications and platforms.
