The Thai government has taken significant strides to enhance tourism by approving a series of new visa initiatives aimed at attracting more visitors to the country.

Effective from June 1, the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry has been expanded from 57 to 93, with the duration of visa-free stays extended to 60 days. Notable additions to the list include Laos, Albania, Cambodia, China, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Morocco, Panama, Romania, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, and others.

These measures also encompass new visa-on-arrival schemes, extended stays for students, and reduced health insurance requirements for retirees.

Visa-on-arrival is now available for citizens of 31 countries, up from the previous 19, providing greater accessibility for international travelers.

Moreover, digital nomads can obtain multiple-entry five-year visas, allowing them to stay for up to 180 days per visit, extendable for another 180 days. This significant extension aims to attract remote workers, freelancers, and enthusiasts interested in Muay Thai, Thai cuisine and other go-to Thai activities.

Foreign graduates can now remain in the country for a full year after completing their studies, facilitating job searches, particularly in high-demand fields. Currently, approximately 40,000 foreign students are pursuing education in Thailand.

In a move to ease requirements for long-stay visas, tourists aged 50 and above will only need health insurance coverage of THB 440,000 (approximately PHP 700,000), starting from September, compared to the previous requirement of THB 3 million (approximately 4.7 million).

Furthermore, the cabinet has approved the expansion of e-visa application services at Thai consulates and embassies, doubling the number of locations from 47 to 94, beginning in December.

With a target of welcoming over 36 million international visitors this year to drive economic growth, Thailand has already received more than 14.32 million foreign tourists as of May 26.

If you’re interested in visiting Thailand soon, visit their official website at the Tourism Authority of Thailand or contact the nearest Thai consulate or embassy.
