Viewers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao continue to trust 24 Oras as GMA Integrated News’ award-winning flagship newscast emerged as the Philippines’ number one TV program in 2023.

Further, the Kapuso primetime newscast tallied a strong start for the new year, as it continued to be the most watched for the first month of 2024.

Based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data from January to December 2023, 24 Oras bested all other shows, becoming the most watched TV program in Total Philippines (combined Urban and Rural). It tallied a combined people rating of 14.7 percent across GMA, GTV, I Heart Movies, and Pinoy Hits channels.

The country’s leading newscast continued to dominate its time slot for January 2024. Latest data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement (with January 28 to 31 based on overnight data) show that 24 Oras charted a combined (GMA/GTV/Pinoy Hits) people rating of 14.4 percent in Total Philippines – way ahead of Frontline Pilipinas, which tallied a combined (TV5/One PH) people rating of 4.2 percent; and TV Patrol, which recorded a combined (A2Z/Kapamilya Channel/Teleradyo Serbisyo) people rating of 3.2 percent.

Exclusive stories, interviews

Beyond the daily news stories, 24 Oras continues to take on the greater mission of bringing wider public service through exclusive stories and interviews, as well as special reports.

The most watched TV program recently presented award-winning broadcast journalist Pia Arcangel’s exclusive interview with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. where he talked about issues on charter change and traffic situation, among others.

24 Oras anchor Vicky Morales also had an exclusive interview with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste President, His Excellency José Ramos-Horta, during his state visit to the Philippines last November.

The Kapuso newscast continues to transcend borders with its new coverage outside the Philippines. Together with the entire GMA Integrated News teams, 24 Oras delivered live and exclusive reports straight from the Middle East during the Israel-Hamas conflict last November.

Hall of Famer

Throughout the years, 24 Oras has been reaping awards here and abroad.

After winning Most Outstanding News Show for five consecutive years, 24 Oras has been inducted into the Hall of Fame during the recently concluded 6th Gawad La Sallianetta Awards.

Late last year at the Anak TV Seal Award 2023, 24 Oras was also recognized as one of the Household Favorite Programs. It also won Best News Program at the 2023 PMPC Star Awards for Television.

The newscast was also named National Winner at the 2023 Asian Academy Creative Awards and took home two awards in the Best Documentary Series and Best News / Current Affairs Programme or Series categories.

24 Oras represented the Philippines last year in the Best Documentary Series category for its “Climate Change series (Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima)” and in the Best News / Current Affairs Programme or Series category, for its Typhoon Doksuri (Supertyphoon Egay) coverage.

The “Climate Change series (Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima)” was presented by GMA Integrated News’ roster of award-winning reporters and pushed the conversation on climate change to the national agenda.

This year, this series of special reports won an Excellence Award at the 20th Philippine Quill Awards under the Communication Skills Division Category 22 Audio/Visual.

Individually, the 24 Oras anchors continue to earn the trust of various award-giving bodies.

Tiangco added a feather to her cap after being conferred with “Gawad Bagani sa Larangan ng Telebisyon” at the 7th Gawad Bagani Sa Komunikasyon: Para sa Makabagong Mandirigma sa Radyo at Telebisyon by University of the East Caloocan earlier last year.

Morales, on the other hand, won Best Female Newscaster at the 2023 PMPC Star Awards for Television. She was also shortlisted as Presenter of the Year at the 2023 Association for International Broadcasting Awards (AIBs).

At the 2022 Gawad Pilipino Icon Awards, Sumangil won the Outstanding TV News Magazine Host award. His report for 24 Oras is on the sorry state of the highly congested Sta. Rosa City District Jail, “Justiis: Condominium Behind Bars,” also gave GMA a nomination at the 59th Golden Nymph Awards of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco – becoming the only Philippine news organization to be nominated in 2019.

This 2024, expect the country’s number one program to take on a greater mission to bring wider public service under GMA Integrated News – ‘Ang News Authority ng Filipino.’

Catch 24 Oras weeknights at 6:30 p.m. GMA with simulcast on GTV, I Heart Movies, and Pinoy Hits.
