The Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGSSDN) spearheaded a tree planting activity at the Provincial Tree Park in Barangay Ipil on Wednesday to celebrate Earth Day.

The initiative, organized alongside the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO), brought together operational units, government agencies, and community volunteers.

In a statement, the CGSSDN noted that the activity emphasized the spirit of bayanihan in reforesting denuded areas and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Participants successfully planted 150 Narra trees to contribute to ecosystem restoration and underscore the importance of protecting natural resources for future generations.

“More than just planting trees, this activity symbolizes growth, unity, resilience, and the collective commitment to protect and preserve the environment in the celebration of Earth Day 2026,” CGSSDN commander Lieutenant Junior Grade Roy Christopher Orillaneda said.

Orillaneda thanked various stakeholders for their support in the successful planting of the Narra seedlings at the park.

He added that the activity underscores the dedication of the Philippine Coast Guard to nation-building initiatives that promote environmental protection and climate action. (PNA)
