Tropical Storm Dindo slightly intensifies as it moves towards the southern Ryukyu Islands of Japan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Dindo is forecast to move generally northwestward and will move near Ryukyu archipelago Sunday night.

The weather bureau also said Dindo is likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Monday morning and “will remain far from the Philippine landmass throughout the forecast period”.

“Dindo may reach severe tropical storm category by Monday morning,” it added.

The tropical storm packed maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h as it moves northwestward at 20 km/h.

At 10 a.m., the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 385 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.

According to PAGASA, sea travel is still risky as gale warning is still in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon.

“Today, occasional rains (light to moderate with at times heavy) due to the southwest monsoon will be experienced over Luzon,” it added. (PNA)
